Kinshasa - The Democratic Republic of Congo's President Joseph Kabila, on Monday announced a reshuffle of his cabinet, naming 10 new ministers while also reducing the number of positions in government.
The expected reshuffle announced on national television reduced the government from 61 to 46 members, and created a new post of minister in charge of parliamentary relations.
The new team included five women and also maintained a geographical balance with at least two members from each of the 11 provinces of the vast central African nation.
The major ministries of interior, foreign affairs and finance remained in the hands of Kabila allies.
The justice ministry, which included human rights, remained headed by Mutombo Bakafwa Nsenda, a former official in the regime of the country's late dictator Mobutu Sese Seko.
Andre-Philippe Futa, ex-finance minister during the country's transition to democracy from 2003-2006 and then co-ordinator for Kabila's electoral alliance, had been put in charge of the economy.
