Nairobi - Kenyan President Mwai Kibaki on Thursday vowed in his New Year speech to continue fighting corruption, but ruled out a witch-hunt to curb the vice that almost crippled the east African country's economy.
"There will be no vendetta and no witch-hunting, although we shall continue to fight corruption vigorously.
"We shall do it strictly under the rule of law, without pointing an accusing finger at any particular person," said Kibaki.
Former president Daniel arap Moi, who retired in 2002, and other officials in his regime have been named in various corruption scandals under investigation in Kenya.
In October, donors pledged to give Kenya about $4.1bn in grants and loans and, in November, the International Monetary Fund unblocked lending and approved a $250m loan, saying the country had shown commitment in fighting corruption.
