Kenyan court rules polls be held in March

2012-07-31 13:28

Nairobi - Kenya's Court of Appeal ruled by majority the decision that the next presidential and parliamentary elections should be held next March as set out by a lower court.

The High Court had in January said the first polls since a disputed vote in December 2007 in which more than 1 220 people were killed, should be held in March next year, but rights groups sought to have the date changed.

Kenya's electoral body has set the date of the elections for 4 March 2013. It was not immediately clear if the Court of Appeal's ruling would be challenged in the Supreme Court.
