Cape Town - A Kenyan journalist was found dead on Sunday in his house in the coastal city of Mombabsa, according to a report.

A housemate found Bernard Wesonga, 27, with blood on his nose and mouth, said

Local journalists said Wesonga had been with friends at a local pub in Mombasa the previous night.

He had told them he recently received anonymous threats via text messages in connection with a story that described allegations of the unlawful shipment and sale of fertiliser that had exceeded its expiration date.

Authorities are yet to establish the cause of his death.

Kenyan journalists regularly face threats and attacks, although homicides are rare.
