Nairobi - Families and friends of those killed in Kenya's Westgate Mall attack have planted trees in memory of lost loved ones on the one-month anniversary of the 21 September attack.

The memorial service on Monday stressed that the attack occurred against people of all races and religions.

Karanja Njoroge, chairperson of the friends of Karaura Forest, said the families didn't come together to mourn as much as to remind everyone that Kenya is a country of Christian, Muslim and Hindu residents.

The allegation that Kenyan security forces looted the mall during the siege saddened many of the family members. Vaishal Shaha, who lost a friend in the attack, said it's hard for Nairobi's different communities to come together in the wake of the looting allegations.
