Abeche - Prosecutors in Chad on Monday called for 16 Europeans to be charged with child kidnapping, extortion or complicity over a charity's attempt last week to fly more than 100 children to France.
The prosecutor in Abeche, in the eastern part of the country, also called for two Chad nationals to be charged.
Ahmat Daoud did not reveal their identities, but said the suspects comprised "an administrative official and a notable".
A judicial source said authorities would transfer the 16 Europeans to the capital N'Djamena "for reasons of security" and also because there was no proper court at Abeche.
They will join a Belgian pilot held there since Sunday for transporting some of the children from the Chad-Sudan border to Abeche.
