Monrovia - The minister of state for presidential affairs in Liberia has resigned over a fire that gutted the presidential palace last week, says President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.
Sirleaf said: "When there is an incident of that nature someone has to take responsibility and the minister of state has taken responsibility and he has resigned."
She said she had accepted the resignation of Morris Dukuly, her campaign manager during last year's presidential elections.
The fire destroyed the entire floor housing Sirleaf's office on Wednesday as she prepared to host the presidents of Ghana, Ivory Coast and Sierra Leone during Liberia's 159 years of independence anniversary.
On Friday, Sirleaf warned that the investigations into the fire would spare no-one "from minister of state down to the gardener".
Public works minister Willie Knuckles had been appointed to replace Dukuly.
