Malemia Village, Malawi — Polling has started in Malawi's fifth elections since the introduction of multiparty democracy in 1994.

Voting started at 06:00 on Tuesday at most polling centres but some delayed opening by as much as three hours due to rains and late deliveries of polling materials.

Mutharika's brother Peter Mutharika is now challenging Banda. Others running for president include Atupele Muluzi, son of another former president, and retired pastor Lazarus Chakwera.
