Mali targets 6% growth in 2005

Bamako - Mali hopes to achieve a 5.9% economic growth in 2005, according to a report by the economy and finance ministry.
The projection is based on anticipated increase in production in the agriculture and mining sectors, and higher investments.
According to the report, cereals production could reach
3 247 670 tons for the 2005-2006 crop year, against 3 085 000 tons in the previous year.
The country expects to produce 600 000 tons of raw cotton in the 2005-2006 crop year, while in the mining sector, gold
production is expected to reach 61.8 tons, against 44.8 tons
in 2004, an increase of 8.5%.
Mali also expects significant improvement in import taxes and levies as well as increases in the tertiary sector performance.
