Johannesburg - A man was taken to hospital in a critical condition on Friday after he was pulled from a dam on a Krugersdorp golf course, according to paramedics.
Netcare 911 spokesperson Nick Dollman said paramedics were called to the dam around 15:00. Workers told them the man, aged about 27, disappeared while looking for golf balls in the dam.
A paramedic and a policeman jumped into the water to search for the victim.
"Although a water rescue team had been summoned, the men knew that time was precious and after about three minutes of searching the paramedic felt something bump him under the water."
The man was found about a metre and a half below the surface.
"The paramedic initiated a full resuscitation, the victim was intubated and ventilated and CPR continued for approximately 20 to 25 minutes after which the victim's heart started to beat."
He was taken to the Krugersdorp private hospital and later transferred to the ICU in an unstable and critical condition.
