Man gets life for wedding night torture

Tunis - A Tunisian man who raped and tortured his wife on their wedding night has been sentenced to life imprisonment, the Tunisian daily al-Sabah reported on Wednesday.

The man raped his wife, then burnt her body with cigarettes and threatened her with further violence in the future before leaving her in a hotel room.

The woman managed to phone her sister, who took her to a hospital where she was treated for severe bleeding and trauma.

The couple had met on the internet while the man was living in Germany. They were in the resort area of Hamamat, south of the capital of Tunis, for their honeymoon when the attack took place.
