Johannesburg - President Thabo Mbeki has congratulated Lesotho's Prime Minister Pakalitha Mosisili on his election to a third term in office, said the department of foreign affairs on Wednesday.
Mbeki conveyed to him South Africa's acceptance of the result as a "reflection of the democratic will of the people of the Kingdom of Lesotho".
He also congratulated the people of Lesotho for participating in the elections.
They were an integral part of shaping Lesotho's destiny, while consolidating the institution of democracy in the country.
Mbeki hoped South Africa and Lesotho would continue work on deepening and consolidating their economic, trade and cultural links.
The Lesotho Congress for Democracy - which has governed the country for a decade - obtained a landslide victory in the election, held over the weekend.
Opposition leader Tom Thabane has alleged irregularities in the voting process.
