Nairobi - Two Kenyan policemen were killed and several others injured by a mob who claimed they were plotting to rig upcoming elections in favour of President Mwai Kibaki, police said on Wednesday.
The pair were among hundreds of policemen deployed in the western Nyanza province to reinforce security in Suba district, about 300km from the capital, said police spokesperson Eric Kiraithe.
"Two were killed in a fight with the public," he said, adding that the incident took place late on Tuesday.
On Tuesday, opposition presidential candidate Raila Odinga charged that the police were being used to rig Thursday's vote.
The area where the deadly clash took place is an Odinga bastion.
