Mubarak gets jail uniform, mugshot taken

2012-06-03 20:31

Cairo - Egypt's ex-dictator Hosni Mubarak was issued regulation blue prison uniform on Sunday a day after being sentenced to life and taken to a jail that once housed his opponents, official media reported.

The state news agency MENA reported that guards in the Cairo Tora prison took his official jail photograph and supplied him with his prisoner number.

Prison authorities turned down his request to continue receiving treatment from doctors at a military hospital where he was detained while on trial for involvement in the killings of protesters during last year's uprising.

The 84-year-old, who reportedly has a heart condition, is being kept in the prison's medical wing.

Security officials and state television had reported on Saturday that Mubarak suffered a "health crisis" on arrival by helicopter at the prison after sentencing, and that he was revived with oxygen.

The former strongman broke down in tears and initially refused to leave the helicopter at the facility that once housed opponents of his regime, many of whom were freed after the uprising that toppled him in February 2011.

No one is above the law. And may be take lesson from this: No matter who we are, if we have perpetrate injustice, either in this world or in the hereafter (or both), we will be held accountable and be punished for it.

Most of the ANC members in high positions should be behind bars. Especially the Mayors and Executive Metro and Town managers. Look out our infrastructure, our roads, our taxes it seems to me they do not make a difference between ANC and state and governance. All they have done is change names. Small things amuse small minds. Street names and town and city names that is the ANC big issues. What a joke!

its so sad,the man is old and sickly. Where have our African values gone to? I really see a lot of our white friends enjoying it when black presidents are imprisoned, why didn't they do the same to the guys who killed 72 innocent kids in Sharpeville? So much for standing for justice hey?

      Nicolaas - 2012-06-04 00:11

@Gilbert DOMDONNER, old and sickly??? He was not old and sickly when he ordered the killing of the protesters. You ask about African values, is this what African value is about, kill any one that stand up for their rights! Why is all the current corrupt ALL NATIONAL CRIMINAL PARTY bbastards not imprisoned, that is the question!

      Lacrimose - 2012-06-04 00:27

*850* people died because this man had the power to stop it and did not. You don't become a saint just because you;'re old. This guy was 55 when he started and a lot more than the 850 massacred died because of him. He was prosecuted. Sharpeville engineers were not. Bring them to court, we'd all be happy.

It is so amaizing if you look at the number of the Arab people who have been killed since the invasion of the Arab world by the former president of the US G.W.Bush in conjunction with the Grate Britain. But no one and no one will mention these as wrong doings. These were the questions that brought forward a lot about the stand of the current UN. Yes they must and should be punished for the wrong doings but do not overlook when it comes to others.
