Kathmandu - More than four million children below the age of five across Nepal are to be immunised against polio in the second phase of a nation-wide project.
The Health Ministry says about 5 000 local district health workers and volunteers have been mobilised at more than 39 000 immunisation centres throughout the country.
The first phase of this year's programme was held last month.
A report says Nepal is on the threshold of being declared a polio-free country, as not a single polio case has been found in the last four years.
Immunisation day has been observed annually in Nepal since 1996.
