Bamako - Mali's interim prime minister, who was given the
job by the military after his predecessor was arrested and forced to resign,
has formed a new government, with some ministers being replaced by people with
ties to a coup leader.
The announcement of Diango Cissoko's cabinet, made late on Saturday,
sees some key positions, including the Defence Ministry, assigned to figures
linked to Captain Amadou Sanogo, who led a coup against the elected president
in March.
Critics say Sanogo has remained too involved with politics
after a civilian government was set up in September.
Former prime minister Cheick Modibo Diarra was forced by the
military to resign earlier this week and was held in detention for a night.
Northern Mali remains under the control of radical Islamist
militants and a proposal to launch an international force to oust the fighters
is under review at the United Nations.
However, the plan remains vague and the latest political
moves in the country have cast a shadow over the government's ability to rule
effectively.
