Lagos - West African regional power Nigeria has ceded seven villages to tiny neighbour Benin in exchange for three other border villages, the Nigerian National Boundary Commission said on Friday.
The border demarcation was carried out during a meeting of the joint technical committee of the two countries in Abuja this week, the commission said.
It said the commission's director general, Dahiru Bobbo, who led Nigeria's delegation to the meeting, said the committee would review and formalise previous legal agreements already reached by the two countries on their common borders.
"The committee agreed seven villages currently administered by Nigeria are now confirmed to be in Benin Republic, while also three villages administered by Benin Republic are now confirmed to be in Nigeria," it said.
The villages ceded to Benin were Ogamue, Nafa, Wasare, Sinaguru, Gidan Kada, Mahuta and Tungan Isa, while Gorogoa, Sabas and Gbesare 2 were transferred to Nigeria.
