Cape Town – A "professional" Nigerian kidnapper was arrested after boarding a plane to South Africa in an attempt to flee his criminal past, a report said on Tuesday.

According to the Vanguard, Okwudili Nnagbo was arrested after boarding his escape aircraft at the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Ikeja last month.

Nnagbo admitted he had been in the business of kidnapping for many years and had lost count of the number of people he had abducted in the past.

Nnagbo said he decided to quit kidnapping after his relatives in South Africa invited him over, only to be arrested just before leaving the country.

The report comes as more than 200 Nigerian schoolgirls remain missing after they were abducted by Boko Haram Islamists in April.
