Johannesburg - Newly-elected commission chair of the African Union (AU) Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma arrived in Mali on Wednesday, her office said.
"Dlamini-Zuma has arrived in Mali ahead of the scheduled African Union and the Economic Community of West African States [Ecowas] meeting scheduled for Friday," said her spokesperson, Ronnie Mamoepa.
The meeting would discuss and assist in finding a resolution to the current political challenges, including the restoration of democracy and the challenges of secession, he said.
The meeting was scheduled to run until Saturday.
Dlamini-Zuma was elected as the new chairperson in July and officially took over the role on Monday.
Speaking at the hand-over ceremony on Monday, Dlamini-Zuma said the AU would try to resolve the conflict in Mali and the Sahel region, or else the crisis would spread to other regions.
