Abuja - Nigeria's anti-graft agency said it tried on Tuesday to arrest senator Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello, the daughter of the West African country's former president, at her Abuja home.
"It is true we went looking for her yesterday ... We have been looking for her and we are still looking for her," an official of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) who asked not to be identified said.
The attempt to arrest Obasanjo-Bello in the capital came after she refused to comply with two summonses to appear in court in relation to a 300 million naira ($2.55m) health ministry scam.
Obasanjo-Bello, who heads the Senate committee on health, was last week charged in absentia by an Abuja court with having retained the proceeds of crime while her father, Olusegun Obasanjo, was in office from 1999 to 2007.
She was thought to have hung onto 10 million naira out of 300 million naira of unspent 2007 budget funds that should have been returned to the treasury.
Her name had also been mentioned in relation to a four billion naira contract attributed to an Austrian company, which was supposed to build a power station on which work never started.
