Luanda - An Angolan opposition parliamentarian and president of the small National Angolan Progressive Alliance party (PDP-ANA), Victor Mfulumpinga Nlandu, has been shot dead in the Angolan capital, a party spokesman said on Saturday.
"President Mfulumpinga was murdered on Friday evening at 19:15 after leaving the party's headquarters in the Kasenda quarter in Luanda after taking part in a meeting," PDP-ANA secretary-general Sediangana Mbimbi told press.
The official was killed by a bullet in the leg, which was believed to have hit an artery, a hospital spokesman said.
Three men, believed to have been armed with automatic rifles, were seen speeding away from the scene, witnesses said.
Mfulumpinga was known as a strong critic of those in power.
Police could not be reached for comment.
