Mogadishu - Officials say that fighting in Somalia between pro-government forces and militants has killed seven people.

Civilians in the Somali capital of Mogadishu have suffered through nearly two decades of violence, which started when the Horn of Africa nation's last functioning government was overthrown in 1991.

Ali Muse, the head of Mogadishu's ambulance service, said on Tuesday that his team collected the dead bodies of two civilians. A witness told The Associated Press a third civilian died when munitions landed on his house.

The Somali police also displayed four bodies they said belonged to militants with the group al-Shabaab.

The Tuesday's fighting was part of an ongoing offensive against the militants.
