Pope mourns Ghana president's death

2012-07-28 16:32

Rome - Pope Benedict XVI on Saturday sent a message of condolence to Ghana, following the sudden death this week of president John Atta Mills, and paid homage to a politician widely lauded for his integrity.

"It was with sadness that I learned of the untimely death of president John Atta Mills," the pope said in a message to the new president, John Dramani Mahama, who was sworn in on Tuesday following the 68-year-old's death.

"Recalling his years of public service and his dedication to democratic principles, I join you, his family, and all the people of Ghana in mourning his passing," he said in the letter, sent from his holiday home, Castel Gandolfo.

"Entrusting the late president's soul to the providence of almighty God, I pray that Ghana will be blessed with peace and prosperity as you begin your service as president in these sad circumstances," he added.

Mills' death came five months ahead of elections in the country seen as a bastion of democracy in west Africa.

The cause of death was not given, but there were unconfirmed reports in local media that he had suffered from throat cancer.

Maybe he should start sending his condolences to the families of millions of Africans who have died of hiv aids. Most of these deaths could have been prevented were it not that the RC Church forbids the wearing of condoms This SICK F.CKED UP institution should be shut down, and this pope send to The Hague to stand trial for crimes against humanity!!

And what about those tens of thousands of kids raped by his clergy? He does not bother about them and the Vatican in fact does all it can to avoid paying compensation to the victims.

Mr Anthony,i dont know from which planet you came from but truth hurts.Look at what is happening in SA becuase people have guns.dont you think if guns are retrieved from people there will be less gun related crimes. In this way total abstination is what the church is calling for.I have seen it is possible to stay without sex if you train you body so.By encouraging condoms what you are saying is have sex but wear condom.Condoms brake and therefore not eben up to 50% guarantee. Therefore i shall not stand and watch self egocentrics badmouth his holiness. It is catholic stand,if you like it live with it.

Mr Nnamdi, I believe we not only come from the same planet, but also from the same continent. Although I would support a gun free SA, your logic that it would lead to less gun related crimes, is as simple, as to say, take all the cars of the road, so than one has less car accidents. Let me assure you that both guns, and cars, will stay in SA for the next 2000 years. Let me also assure you that, unless a gaddafi type fruitcake ,blows all of us up, for the next 2 million years, there will also be sex in Africa, and PLENTY of it !! On the same planet where you and I live, FIVE THOUSAND hiv-aids sufferers die EVERY SINGLE DAY. That is almost TWO MILLION per year. And the by far majority of these deaths, occur in the same continent as you and me are from. Now I would exceggerate if I said , the pope is responsible for all off these deaths. But he is most definatelly responsible for 1.5 MILLION of these deaths. In most countries in the world, if you are responsible for someone's death, you can go to jail for a minmum of say 5 years. So to come back to your 'gun' logic, the pope should spend at least 7.5 million years in jail.... ""By encouraging condoms what you are saying is have sex but wear condom"" YES, That is what I am saying !! And re the 'braking' of a condom, may I give you the following advise; Firstly , buy a good make, ( one is not allowed to advertise on these comment sites, but the first four letters, are; 'Dure'!! )

      AnthonyfromAfrica - 2012-07-29 02:54

Mr Nnamdi, Continued Secondly, read the instructions well, on how to put on a condom. The same as you would read the instructions on the flour packet, when baking a cake. And thirdly, if you plan to have 'rough' sex, put on three condoms at the same time. ""I have seen it is possible to stay without sex if you train you body so"" Than please be so kind, to tell this 'secret' to the TENS OF THOUSANDS of RC priests, who put their dirty filthy hands into the underpants of 8 year old boys!!!! To call me a ""self egocentrics badmouth"" is ok, but than I would say to you; You should go and get yourself a good f..k, so than maybe you won't talk so much sh.t, besides that it would put a smile on your face !!!

Nmandi WTF, "his holiness"? His "unwholesomeness" is a far better description of the CEO of the World's largest organised criminal enterprise and paedophile ring. The Catholic Church is the Mafia in frocks and silly hats, rotten to the the core of their shrivelled toxic and twisted hearts. The Catholic Church would rather see increased venereal diseases, unwanted pregnancies, increased poverty, child malnutrition, child starvation, various sanitation diseases, etc. than see a parishioner use a condom. It's a cruel reminder of what the world was when these guys had absolute power. Of what it would become if they ever happen to get absolute power again. It should awaken us to the great task ahead of us. Of completely obliterating this nonsense called religion.
