Nairobi - Kenya's President Mwai Kibaki on Thursday urged Kenyans to pray for divine intervention to save the impoverished East African nation from the myriad problems it faces.
"Let us all sanctify ourselves and pray for Gods intervention in our efforts in fighting diseases, poverty, corruption and insecurity among other pressing problems that continue to afflict our country," he said.
In a message to Kenya's predominantly Christian population released ahead of this weekend's Easter celebrations, Kibaki said prayer and following the teachings of Jesus Christ would ease the daily hardships they endure.
"This will help in solving many of the problems that Kenyans face," the presidential press service said in a statement that paraphrased the Easter message.
"Noting that it is not Gods will that Kenyans continue to face many problems, the president called upon Kenyans not to relax their prayerful vigilance but to redouble it," the statement said.
An estimated 70% of Kenya's 31 million people are Christians and the country on Friday enters a four-day Easter holiday to celebrate the resurrection of Christ.
