Johannesburg - A pregnant 15-year-old girl from Krugersdorp on the West Rand was gang-raped at the weekend and her fiancé killed while she looked on.
"I don't know what to tell my child. How do I comfort her?" the girl's father said on Sunday.
The teenager, who is four months pregnant, was attacked while walking home with her fiancé at about 23:10 on Friday.
They'd spent the evening at the Bush Pub nightclub.
The couple was crossing an abandoned sports field when they were confronted by three men. One of them was armed.
"Her fiancé held her close, kissed her and told her he loved her," the girl's dad said.
One of the men grabbed her and started dragging her into the field while the other two held on to her fiancé.
"He went crazy and started kicking and screaming. They then shot him in the head - right in front of her."
While she was watching her fiancé die, they took turns raping her.
They then undressed her fiancé, and stuffed his socks into her mouth.
The men used the girl's own shoelaces to tie her hands and feet.
After struggling for more than an hour to free herself, she begged her fiancé to "wake up".
"She refused to believe he was dead," her father said.
The girl ran back to the Bush Pub for help.
"She kept on crying and shaking. That knocked me", her father said.
When the police told her that her fiancé was dead, she started crying hysterically, her father said.
The girl was also very concerned about her baby, but according to her father it seems as if the foetus is unharmed.
"She is terrified of losing her child. It's all she has left of her fiancé now."
After the attack, the teenager was taken to hospital, where she was given antiretrovirals and received counselling.
Police spokesperson Kalego Mogale said no arrests had been made by Sunday night.
