Protesters mar ANC celebration
Johannesburg - The 54th Freedom Charter anniversary celebrations were marred by protesting Johannesburg emergency workers in the city centre on Friday.
While the African National Congress veterans cut the colourful four-piece cake in celebration of the Freedom Charter inside Luthuli House, disgruntled emergency workers put on their own show outside.
The small group of protesters arrived during ANC deputy secretary general Thandi Modise's address inside Luthuli House.
What sounded like a celebration, with sounds of vuvuzelas outside, turned out to be emergency workers calling on President Jacob Zuma to recall the city's Mayor Amos Masondo.
The workers' placards also threatened that if their boss, Audrey Gule, did not resign, they would remove her themselves.
