Johannesburg - There has been widespread condemnation for the Swazi royal family after it emerged that three wives of Swazi King Mswati III are planning a lavish Las Vegas gambling holiday.

The Mail&Guardian reported that the wives would be part of a royal delegation of 66 people flying per chartered jet to the US gambling capital.

This comes after the king just days ago warned the people of Swaziland against the “love of money” during a religious sermon.

The delegation was apparently booked into 10 separate villas, each costing R20 000 a night.

Money for the trip was to come from a national fund.

Swaziland is currently in the grip of a national civil servant strike.

A trade union spokesperson also slammed the country’s royal family saying the trip was an unnecessary indulgence at a time when the country was battling poverty and unemployment.
