Goma - The spokesperson for the Democratic Republic of Congo's M23 rebels says President Joseph Kabila's army attacked them on Friday, ending a two-month-long ceasefire.
M23 political branch official Bertrand Bisimwa said on Saturday that government forces attacked the rebels in Kitagoma, in eastern Congo, near the Ugandan border.
The M23 group is made up of former Congolese army members who defected in April.
They say they are against Kabila's government because it did not comply with a peace agreement signed in March 2009.
Rwanda and Uganda have been accused by United Nations experts of supporting the rebels.
The ceasefire between the Congolese army and the M23 was established as talks were held.
The M23 controls a small part of North Kivu province, 30km north of Goma, the provincial capital.
