Nairobi - Rwandan Hutu rebels operating in Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) have accused Kigali of planning to sabotage elections in the vast Central African nation.
"Rwandan authorities do not want the electoral process to go on," said Anastase Munyandekwe of the Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda (FDLR).
"They do not want the beginning of the democratic process in Congo," he added.
Munyandekwe explained that a return to democratic rule in the DRC would prevent Rwanda from "looting the riches of Congo".
Rwandans want "to sabotage the democratic process in the DRC and they will say it is us who are responsible".
On Tuesday, the insurgents also accused Rwanda of plotting a massive offensive in the volatile eastern DRC region.
In the past, Kigali has accused the insurgents, who have been hiding in the dense forests in eastern DRC for the past 11 years, of taking part in the Rwandan genocide of 1994, when 800 000 people were massacred.
Voter registration is under way for DRC's elections set for June 2006.
If successful, they will be the country's first democratic polls in 40 years.
