Richard Branson plans Kenya game lodge

Nairobi - British billionaire Richard Branson says he plans to open a luxury camp in a new reserve next to Kenya's famed Masai Mara game park next year.

The Masai Mara is famed for the waves of wildebeest that migrate from Tanzania's Serengeti National Park north into the Mara once a year. Branson called the migration one of the top "wonders" in the world.

On the sidelines of a business conference in Nairobi on Thursday, Branson said his project "will help protect the migration routes by creating some reserves just around the Masai [Mara]".

Branson, who is to travel to the Masai Mara region on Thursday and Friday, said he hoped the 15-tent luxury camp would be open in the next four to six months.

Branson has run a game reserve in South Africa for the last 20 years. He already helps fund the aid group Free the Children, which works in the Masai Mara region.

How will the creation of reserves around the Mara contribute to the protection of the migration ?? These antiquated colonial conservation strategies just lead to conflicts over land resources ... what about the people who live on the land that is about to be appropriated for these reserves ??

Other countries (the ones with the narrow eyes) are behind more projects than we think. The kick-backs are bigger and part of their 50yr plan to expand to the whole of Africa. They use inmates to do their labour and the labourers are left behind when the project is done. They don't care about the wildlife (Rhino horn gives you "Power"!). They multiply like rats and eventually the numbers makes their vote. Africa is so easy to bribe and get a foot in the door. Hidden agendas should be inspected and stopped if possible!
