Cairo - At least 30 people were killed after dozens of homes in a northern Cairo shantytown were crushed by a massive rockslide, state television reported on Sunday, updating an earlier toll.
Rescue workers and residents worked through to the night to remove bodies but dozens are still believed trapped under the rubble, the television reported.
At least 46 people were also injured in the accident, the official MENA news agency said.
Huge boulders each weighing "hundreds of tonnes" according to one official, broke off Moqattam hill on Saturday, destroying at least 35 homes in the impoverished and densely populated Manshiyet Nasser neighbourhood.
