Congo - A United Nations experts report says Rwandan support for rebels in neighbouring Democratic Republic of Congo has waned but not ended over the past six months.

In their mid-year report to the UN Security Council's DRC sanctions committee, the experts say the M23 rebel movement has continued recruiting in Rwanda "thanks to assistance from some sympathetic Rwandan officials". It also says some deserters from the M23 who fled to Rwanda have been sent back to the rebels.

But the experts say they have received "no evidence of full Rwandan army units supporting M23" since November, when the rebels briefly occupied Goma, one of eastern DRC's biggest cities.

They conclude that M23 is weakened but say that in June its commander was reportedly planning further operations against Goma.
