Cape Town - South Africa's ambassador to the DRC, Sisa Ngombane, confirmed some South African companies have evacuated a number of their employees from Kinshasa, SABC radio reported on Sunday.
The evacuation followed a series of protests by people angry at the UN force in the country for its failure last week to prevent the fall of the key eastern DRC town of Bukavu to dissident troops.
Ngombane said Kinshasa was calm on Sunday morning and security forces were in control of the situation.
Caroline Creasey, a Multi-Choice employee, said she and five colleagues, along with family of South African embassy staff, flew home from Brazzaville near Kinshasa, SABC said.
They reached Brazzaville by ferry after roads to Kinshasa were blocked.
