Pretoria - A pilot counter-terrorism training programme attended by 22 police from 12 southern African countries started in Pretoria on Monday, said the police service.
The training will focus on issues related to counter-terrorism, including legal aspects, intelligence co-ordination, border control, investigation, and the role of the media, it said.
The programme was being done under the auspices of the Southern African Regional Police Chiefs Co-ordinating Committee (Sarpcco).
Officers from Angola, Botswana, Mozambique, Namibia, Malawi, Mauritius, Lesotho, Swaziland, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Tanzania and South Africa would undergo the four-week programme.
"The curriculum is designed to equip Sarpcco member countries with... the knowledge and skills to address terrorism effectively."
At the conclusion of the course, delegates should be able to prevent and react to acts of terrorism as well as gather and disseminate intelligence.
"These newly-acquired skills will be tested during a two-day simulation of a terrorist attack at the end of the course," said the police service.
