Cape Town – The Southern African Development Community (SADC) troika of heads of state and government is expected to meet this week to give impetus to efforts aimed at creating peace and stability in Lesotho ahead of the country's elections.

This was said by the facilitator, Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa, at the conclusion of his working visit to Maseru over the weekend.

A statement by the presidency said the troika meeting, involving presidents of South Africa, Zimbabwe and Botswana, will be preceded by the deployment of the SADC electoral observer mission in Maseru on Tuesday.

"The troika meeting will be preceded by the deployment of the SADC Electoral Observer Mission on Tuesday 18 February 2015 in Maseru as part of preparations for the forthcoming elections scheduled for 28 February 2015," read part of the statement.

A Sapa report on Sunday quoted spokesperson Ronnie Mamoepa, as saying Ramaphosa was happy with the preparations ahead of the mountain kingdom's elections

The election will be taking place two years sooner than originally expected.
