Shabaab bashes Kenya-Israel security pact

2011-11-16 07:37

Mogadishu - A spokesperson for the Somali militant group al-Shabaab said that Kenya's prime minister recently visited Israel to seek assistance in "destroying Muslim people and their religion."

Sheik Ali Mohamud Rage on Tuesday also warned Kenya that it still has a chance to withdraw its forces from neighbouring Somalia because "things have not begun in earnest", a likely reference to threats to carry out terror attacks in Nairobi, Kenya's capital.

The office of Kenya's prime minister said on Monday that Kenya received the backing of Israeli leaders to help Kenya fight what it called "fundamentalist elements". Kenyan Prime Minster Raila Odinga visited Israel on Sunday and Monday and sought help building the capacity of his country's security forces.

Kenyan troops last month moved into Somalia to fight al-Shabaab militants who in return promised reprisal terror attacks in Nairobi.

"We tell Kenya that things have not begun in earnest yet and it is now a month on. You still have a chance to go back to your border," Rage said.

Kenya said in a statement that Israeli President Shimon Peres and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu promised the East African nation help in securing its borders with Somalia.

A statement from the Odinga's office said Netanyahu promised to help build "a coalition against fundamentalism", bringing together the countries Kenya, Ethiopia, South Sudan and Tanzania. Kenya said that Peres said Israel was ready to make "everything available to Kenya" for internal security.

The Israeli government did not confirm any of statements made by Odinga's office. Israel said the meetings were a continuation of the deepening of Israel's relations with African countries.

Israeli security forces are among the best in the world in dealing with terror threats, making it logical for Kenya to seek security assistance. But al-Shabaab could view Kenya's request as a provocation.

In 2002 militants bombed an Israeli-owned luxury hotel on Kenya's coast near the city of Mombasa, killing 13 people. The militants also tried to shoot down an Israeli airliner at the same time.

No Shabaab, you and other millitant groups are ruining the Muslim faith for all the peace loving Muslims.

      Dirk - 2011-11-16 11:21

Peace loving? Give me a few examples. Christians are persecuted and executed in almost every muslim country in the world. Is that peace loving?

      Barry - 2011-11-16 18:21

@Dirk. Please give details for any executions of Christians because they are Christians in the last, I don't know, 10 years ?

      Martin - 2011-11-17 01:10

Barry, there are plenty. Have a look at the following three sites for starters: http://www.persecution.org/ http://english.freecopts.net/english/ http://www.christianpersecution.info/

Very True Felix - Muslims all over the world are by and large paeace loving but somehow here in Africa . Sudan and Kenya and Somalia notably they are bent on violence and disruption. These countries are battling with other unrelated crisis i.e) famine , poverty..but now have to worry about terrorism ..very sad..just chill the eff out!

      Dirk - 2011-11-16 17:54

You are the one who needs to study history. The Crusades were by the catholics, a FALSE cross. The pope "blessed" the crusaders on their murderous journey of plunder- also the Jews. Dont confuse Catholism with Christianity. There are many false religions posing as Christians. In N-Ireland "atheist protestants" kill atheist Catholics"Irak and Afghanistan is totally a different matter. They were invaded in response to actions taken by murderous barbaric terrorists. They and the crusaders will meet again

      Barry - 2011-11-16 19:11

@Ria. You cant even spell Muslim. What do you know ?

  • Adam - 2011-11-16 18:21

muslims defending islam is one of the most confusing things i have ever seen. they try to tell us, noooo its a religion of peace! and, its not us who cause the trouble, people start with us all the time!!! have these idiots ever actually heard there own leaders speak? islamic leaders are more then happy to call for jihad, they make no secret about it. then you get these idiots posting here who suddenly have invented some new form of islam where all the bad things their nation have done r swept away under the rug, and instead every one else is blamed. mohammed you idiot. read what you wrote.... the part about "issues" what the hell exactly do you think these "issues" are?? these "issues" are your own people, and instead of trying to make some kind of contribution to the world making it a better place, you sit here justifying the actions of those who are committed to keeping up these "issues" a brain dead nation

      Barry - 2011-11-16 18:28

@Adam.. When arriving in Jakarta, Indonesia, the country with the biggest Muslim population, one the first building seen is a church. The freedom of religion is guaranteed, just like our lovely land of South Africa. I know you think every one else except you is an idiot. I am afraid you wrong. TOTALLY WRONG Please your religious ranting only serves to show you nothing about these issues.

Kenyan PM must have been impressed by the manner in which the Israel(Jewish state)kill Palestinians with impunity with the backing of the US and UK who helped establish this state (a truly unfortunate historical eventuality. PM invite them to do the Killing near home.

      Adam - 2011-11-25 14:03

if you knew anything about history no one helped the jews establish a state, they did by them selves. tiny little nation with no support defeated every invading arab army. they dont teach that part of the story in mosque!
