Bangui - Six Central African Republic soldiers were killed during an ambush in the restive north of the country, a senior military source told AFP on Tuesday.
The soldiers were attacked by unknown gunmen in the early hours of July 9 on a highway near the city of Bossangoa.
"At the moment, it is not possible to determine the nature of the gunmen. They were perhaps armed bandits from the north who have been threatening the security of local populations," said the source, who requested anonymity.
Armed groups pose a serious danger on roads in the north of the country near the Chadian border, with Bangui unable to maintain security.
