Somalia: Bomber tries to attack army HQ
Mogadishu - A Somali officer says a suicide bomber dressed in a military uniform tried to enter the headquarters of the Somali army in Mogadishu but was shot dead by troops.
Lieutenant Hassan Hussein said seven Somali troops were wounded after the bomber detonated the explosives on Tuesday. Hussein said that only the bomber was killed.
al-Qaeda- linked militants with the al-Shabaab group have carried out several suicide bomb attacks in Mogadishu.
Somalia's weak military is backed by 9 000 troops from Uganda and Burundi who are fighting al-Shabaab as part of an African Union peacekeeping force.
