Spar owner killed in robbery
Greytown - Three gunmen - one of whom was dressed in a police uniform - shot dead a 31-year-old man at his Greytown home, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Tuesday.
Superintendent Henry Budhram said Mohamed Sayed, who had a family business, was at his home when the three men arrived requesting to speak to him.
”The guard opened the gate and all three men entered. As they entered, the men produced firearms and ordered Sayed, the security guard and the two domestic helpers to lie on the floor.”
The robbers took the victims' cellphones before searching for money in the bedrooms.
“It is believed that Sayed managed to get his firearm and shoot at the suspects,” Budhram said.
Police suspect a shootout ensued and Sayed and two suspects were hit in the crossfire.
Sayed died at the scene while his three assailants fled in a getaway car driven by a fourth suspect.
Sayed and his family owned the Greytown Spar and police suspect the gang might have followed him home after work.
Budhram said the motive might have been robbery.
Police recovered a firearm and a police cap at the scene.
