Sudan 'respects' AU leader vote

2012-07-16 16:40

Khartoum - Sudan said on Monday it respects the choice of African leaders to elect South Africa's Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma as head of the African Union Commission, in a vote which left the continent divided.

"We accept ... and we respect the opinion of the leaders" who elected Dlamini-Zuma as head of the executive body, said Rabbie Abdelatti Ebaid, a senior member of Sudan's ruling National Congress Party.

The crisis between Sudan and South Sudan is a key issue at the summit of AU leaders in Addis Ababa that elected Dlamini-Zuma.

The AU and its mediator Thabo Mbeki, the former South African president, have led months of talks trying to resolve contentious issues between Sudan and South Sudan, which separated last year before coming to the brink of all-out war with the north in April.

Dlamini-Zuma is South Africa's home affairs minister. She won a tightly fought vote on Sunday night to beat the incumbent, Jean Ping of Gabon, becoming the first woman to head the AU Commission.

Some leaders hailed the decision but others criticised South Africa's tactics in having her elected.

Not true Niels. She may have made some mistakes but she has definitely improved things in the Dept. Home Affairs. Ask anyone about getting the ID Books and Passports. It is actually a pleasure. There will always be some bad eggs but give credit where credit is due!!

me thinks the fools who voted for this lady have never been to Hillbrow or the cape flats? if they had, they would see that the ANC cannot run their own country ifficiently, yet they want to lead all of africa. I also guess that the fools who voted for her have not seen the open air toilets that the black people of south africa have to use to remove the waste from their bodies,or the shacks that most of them live in? I would also be correct in assuming the the fools who voted for her have no idea on how corrupt of a govt the ANC is? they must not know that the current president ZUMA,the ex husband of this idiot who they just voted for,has allowed his relatives (khulubuse zuma)to turn his own citizens into SLAVES in their own country? (see auroa mines) but they want to lead africa?I have seen enough. Oz her I come!
