Lagos - Authorities say a 25-year-old Nigerian man smuggling methamphetamine on a Malaysia-bound flight died from ingesting a kilogramme of it.

Saturday's statement from Nigeria's national drug law enforcement agency says Chilaka Ogbonna Emmanuel's death forced the flight from Doha, Qatar, to make an emergency landing in India, where an autopsy was performed on Friday.

The agency said Emmanuel had begun his journey at Lagos' Murtala Muhammed International Airport on Tuesday.

Drug traffickers often use Nigerians as mules to carry drugs from the West African nation to Europe, the US and other locations, though the drugs typically ingested are cocaine and heroin.

wow... these are not the comments I expected on this article... this is very sad. that such a young life can be taken because of drugs. I dont know what I our world has turned into.. its actually very scary that something like drug trafficking is a common crime these days. it makes me afraid of bringing children into this world. this guy was a misled youth who now doesnt have a second chance of turning his life around. I just hope that his death is a wake up call to at least a few young people...
