Johannesburg - The Tshwane University of Technology appointed a director of employment equity, responsible for transformation and equity issues, the university announced on Tuesday.
Khosana Tladi took up his position on Monday and would be responsible for "giving strategic leadership on issues of transformation, employment equity and diversity," TUT spokesperson Willa de Ruyter said.
"Because transformation is a process, Tladi's office will strive to collectively involve all stakeholders as much as possible," she said.
Before this, Tladi held a similar position at the Central University of Technology.
TUT has been in conflict with the National Education, Health and Allied Workers' Union (Nehawu) since the beginning of this year.
The university shut down for more than three weeks in January, interrupting student registration, after Nehawu began a strike for higher wages.
During the strike, the union demanded a forensic audit of the TUT administration.
In the aftermath of the strike action, in which Nehawu claimed victory, the union said it had no confidence in university chancellor and principal Errol Tyobeka.
TUT also agreed to a commission looking into the university's administration rather than a forensic audit.
Nehawu barred three managers from entering the campus last week. The union claimed that the three, including Tyobeka, would interfere with the investigation of the commission.
