Nairobi/Addis Ababa - Ethnic clashes in Ethiopia over the past month have displaced about 16 000 people, the BBC reported on Tuesday.
People belonging to the Anyuak ethnic group in western Ethiopia have been steadily fleeing to southern Sudan since fighting erupted in December.
The Anyuak were believed to have carried out attacks against United Nations personnel to protest against their land being used for camps for Sudanese refugees. The fighting has left an estimated 57 dead.
According to the aid agency, World Relief, up to 30 people are arriving daily in the Upper Nile town of Pachala.
Meanwhile, Ethiopian police are still investigating the disappearance of Okelo Okuaye, the governor of Gambella who has been missing since last Friday. - Sapa-DPA
