Lome - Togo's new prime minister has put together a transitional government following months of political turmoil in the tiny West African country.

An announcement read on national television on Tuesday confirmed the formation of the 29-member government, which includes many of the same members as the previous one.

Prime Minister Kwesi Seleagodzi Ahoomey-Zunu's new government includes six ministers from the largest parliamentary opposition party.

The former prime minister handed in his resignation earlier this month after weeks of anti-government demonstrations.

The same family has ruled Togo for almost half a century. President Faure Gnassingbe assumed power in 2005 after the death of his father, the long-time dictator. Legislative elections are set for October.
