Trio nabbed for house robbery
Cape Town- Three armed robbers were arrested following a confrontation with security guards in Rondebosch in the Western Cape, police said on Saturday.
"Two of the men entered a house in Lancaster street at about 23:00 on Friday and robbed a man of his safe and valuable items. They fled the scene with the victim's blue Polo," said spokesperson Inspector November Filander.
However, the Polo then collided with two stationary security vehicles, during which several shots were fired by the men at the guards, who also returned fire.
"They got off the vehicle and fled on foot after which police pursued them," said Filander.
The pair was arrested and police confiscated two firearms with their serial numbers filled off. "A third suspect was found hiding in the boot of the Polo vehicle, belonging to the suspects. It was parked nearby the victim's house," said Filander.
The trio, aged between 20 and 30 from Guguletu will soon appear in the Wynberg Magistrate court on charges of house robbery, pointing of firearm, damage of property and possession of illegal firearms and ammunition, he said.
