United Nations - The United Nations security council held closed-door talks on Thursday, to discuss fighting between rebels and government troops in Chad.
Chad has accused neighbouring Sudan of sponsoring a coup.
A UN diplomat said the issue was brought to the council's attention by the Democratic Republic of Congo, which holds the rotating presidency of the African Union (AU).
The diplomat expected the council to adopt a statement calling on Chad and Sudan to abide by a February 8 accord, in which the two countries agreed not to shelter rebels or conduct hostile activities against each other.
The statement would also call on Chadian rebels to stop fighting, and urge UN chief Kofi Annan and the AU to intervene.
On Thursday, Chad claimed it had repulsed rebels from taking its capital N'Djamena.
Chadian President Idriss Deby Itno said the rebels were part of a coup attempt fomented by Sudan.
