US worried about Kenya

Nairobi - The top US diplomat for Africa says the Obama administration is worried that friction between rival parties in Kenya's coalition government could lead to violence similar to that which nearly tore the country apart last year.
US Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs Johnnie Carson said that should not be allowed to happen.
Carson was speaking to journalists on Tuesday after meeting with President Mwai Kibaki and Prime Minister Raila Odinga, who lead rival parties within the government.
Carson was making his first trip to Africa since assuming office last week.
Kibaki and Odinga signed a power sharing deal in February 2008 after a deadly dispute over presidential results left more than 1 000 people dead.
