War crimes suspects face law

Nairobi - Ugandan war crimes suspects must face justice as part of efforts to end two decades of insurgency in the east African nation through a negotiated agreement, the United Nations says.
The issue is a key sticking point at peace talks between the Kampala and Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) rebels, whose leader Joseph Kony and three other commanders face International Criminal Court arrest warrants. A fifth indicted commander died.
The UN Security Council backed the peace process, but insisted that those who has violated human rights in the course of the devastation should face justice.
"Security Council members also reiterated that those responsible for serious violations of human rights and international humanitarian law must be brought to justice," said a UN statement.
In addition, the council urged the rebels to release women, children and other non-combatants they are holding in jungles in the north-eastern Democratic Republic of Congo and southern Sudan.
