Zambian bus accident kills 33
Lusaka - A head-on collision between a bus and a truck in the southeast Zambian town of Nyimba killed 33 people Wednesday, including six children, police said.
Police spokesperson Ndandula Siamana said the accident occurred when a bus travelling from the eastern town of Chipata on the Malawian border tried to overtake a vehicle and collided with an oncoming truck.
"Thirty-three people are confirmed dead, 19 men, eight women and six children," Siamana told AFP.
She said police were still compiling figures of injured passengers from the bus, which had been carrying 88 people.
