Busia - A Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) soldier reportedly committed suicide at his home in Busia County after arriving from Somalia where he had been deployed to fight the militant group, al-Shabaab.

The 52-year-old soldier, Joash Ochieng Magar had allegedly been sent back home after developing mental problems.

According to Standard, Magar was to retire on March 12.

His death came barely two months after al-Shabaab ambushed a KDF camp at El Adde in Somalia, killing about 200 soldiers.

The camp was said to have had approximately 240 soldiers at the time of the attack, but only a few returned home after surviving the onslaught.

Some are still missing, according to reports.
